The animated movie that Japan prohibited the domestic screening.
Producing this work was extremely difficult and no Japanese movie and video production comany dared to take up kiryukan project.
So MIDORI's producer decided to produce this work on my own as an underground work without relying on commercial funds.
The Japanese animated cartoon drawing is divided into the "Genga"(original picture:key animation)and the "Douga"(assistant @animationj.
However, as for this work of MIDORI, one staff performed it almost entirely.
Small troupes like "Gallery" and "Paranoia Department Store", independent producers of documentary filsm, SM clubs, general merchandise shop owners, bookstores, shops selling movie and threater souvenirs, owners of coffee shops, lawyers, cartoonists, dancers and movie directors, many people associated with underground, subculture and political movements offered their cooperation for accomplishing this work.
It took five years for completing it. "MIDORI", by nature, is a work that should be screened in a labyrinth-like show tent specially designed and constructed or in a secret underground space fit for showing some underground works.
Further, it is a complex three-dimensional work with a "catch (live performance-like stage effect) making a free use of movable stage, gunpowder, smoke-machine, arts by full-colored kimono and obi, lifelike dolls, three projectors and lighting technique, inspired by Kabuki theater and "Edo magic lantern picture", first cinema in Japan; in the Japanese theater you will have to take a long walk to your seat passing through a long, dark labyrinth.
Then, in the last scene, cherry petals would be cast down from the ceiling like snowflakes to your seats.
This is how the works are presented usually in Japan.
Kiryukan arranged the work in the style of each, lovable TV animation so that the young people who are never taught the ugliness of the world in school, could see the work.
After showing the film with Kiryukan in 1992 in an underground chamber of a building or shrine, we screened only main screen in Japanese and overseas threaters from 1994, as a PR-designed film.
In 1999,when the film was returned after having been screened in overseas film festival, it was confiscated by censorship at Narita Customs and destroyed as a film interdicted in Japan, and from thereon, it was shown only by videos.
This time, it is released only for Europe and for the first time it is turned to DVD.
The releasewas made possible thanks to many "overseas film lovers" who uphold the film culture as more important than the Japanese audiences.
MIDORI was prohibited publicly in Japan, however MIDORI is shown freely abroad.
This expresses the way of measures of the censorship by Japan intelligibly.
In Japan, brutal murder case and crimes increase year by year.
The movie prohibits the expression without the policy, and, in reality society, a brutal case happens.
This is totally reverse.
Japan prohibits the expression of the liberal movie and animated cartoon.
However, in reality, the Yasukuni government is going to assume Japan a war nation again.
This is reverse, too.
War is murder.
The movie should be free.
There is the censorship of the movie called the self-imposed restraint"Jisyu-Kisei" in Japan.
However, we must not kill the person in reality society.
The movie which was checked when a trouble and a dispute happen cuts it beforehand and cancels the screening and changes contents.
It is not only a Japanese movie.
In March, 2008, Director of ć "YASUKUNI" became the screening cancellation.
The expression of MIDORI of the movie is cruel, but there is the radical part.
It peace and love. And it appeal for getting rid of discrimination from the world.
